Medallion Hardwood Floors
Floor medallions are a focal point in a floor surface. It can be made with various materials including wood. These inlays can be illustrated in stately places like royal palaces in Europe, Art Decos and the French Chateau. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are mostly round, oval or square in shape. Medallions are typically placed in entryways, stair landings or in the center of a room. This ornamental accent can be premanufactured in a new floor or installed in an existing one. Medallion inlays demonstrate fine craftsmanship with the use of mosaic, marquetry or intarsia.
Mosaic - small pieces of hardwood are put together in a pattern.
Marquetry - the craft of fitting thin veneers over a surface in a pattern. It can be a geometrical or angular pattern, almost appearing like a puzzle.
Intarsia - pieces are fit together like a puzzle.
