Climate Pleasant Hardwood Floors
The selection of a hardwood surface requires consideration of climate factors since most hardwoods tend to expand and contract. In places with extreme weather, floor surfaces are also important to provide individuals with both comfort and safety.
Suggestions:
- Afzelia - displays little movement over time.
- Cocobolo -it is highly water resistant, so it doesn't swell like many other woods and can be trusted in very damp climates.
- White Oak - is also resistant to water.
- Tasmanian Oak - gives excellent dimensional stability, making it an ideal choice for extreme climates or over radiant heat.
- Balsa Wood - it has insulating properties and is also used for lining incubators, refrigerators and cold storage rooms.
- Cork - unlike some floors, cork insulates very well. It helps keep your home or office cool during the summer and warm during the winter time. Since it insulates better, it can also make a difference on energy bills and also reduce sound throughout the house.

- Pecan- is prone to frost and decay and is not recommended for extreme climates.
