Black Walnut Floors
Black Walnut trees are approximately 200 years old and are valuable natives to the Midwest. It is the only naturally occurring "dark" hardwood in this region. It is one of the worlds most prized and sought after woods because of its beautiful color, strength, durability and excellent machining quality. Black Walnut has a rich dark brown to purplish black color. The wood is usually straight grained, although it can be wavy or curly grained, and contains a coarse texture.
It is commonly used in flooring applications where a distinguished appearance is desired. Black Walnut is a favorite among manufacturers as it has an excellent resistance for handling nails and screws which makes it perfect for cabinetmaking and furniture. It’s a strong, durable wood that is very expensive to buy. However, it is commonly used in flooring applications.
